Just north of Colorado Springs is the community of Black Forest, named for the dark ponderosa pine trees that blanket the area. Black Forest Regional Park is one of the reasons to consider making this area your new home. Friendly for bikers, dog walkers, and families, the forest is home to trails and facilities for year-round use.

Little spots of history dot this area, like the Black Forest School House, a hand-built log cabin made in the 1920s, which served many of the community’s needs. It’s now on the register of National Historic Places. Other log cabins from the same era are near the schoolhouse for touring.

Black Forest’s main appeal, though, is the quiet and seclusion. Tuck yourself into the pines away from traffic, busyness, and noise to experience the calming effects of nature. Most homes in the area sit on no less than five acres. That means room for plenty of guests, two-legged and four-legged. You’ll find an active equestrian community here.

The cost of living may be slightly higher, but the tradeoff is very little crime and room to stretch your legs or your horses. You and your family will enjoy the safety of rural life tucked into the pines and not far from the mountains. Pike’s Peak is just over the ridge.

Make Black Forest your next home. You can feel the tension leaving your shoulders already.
